About Us

How We Began

Family Tree Chat was set up by three friends, who met through their love of family history. We were all researching our own family trees and had varying amounts of experience. We found that we were all hitting “brick walls” and “if only I could find out such and such” was always at the front of our minds. The idea of having somewhere friendly and “free” to go to get some help or advice on where to go or what to look for next, was something we had all thought about. So, Family Tree Chat was born!

Three has become two, but our other co-founder still takes an active part in posting and helping out.  We have recently started updating everything and hope to be adding new pages to the site soon.

Our Aims

Family Tree Chat is a friendly self help website set up for members to help each other in the hunt for their ancestors. We are a completely free site and rely only on our members’ love of genealogy and family history to help each other. If everyone helps someone then we all get on a bit better in our research. We are here to offer advice and help, be it by look ups, suggestions on where to look next, where to go, giving opinions on research tools or just to listen to those brick wall problems. Often the answer is staring you in the face and you just can’t see it, but someone new can look at it and see it straight away, or may know how to find the answer! We want FTC to be a place for people to come to for help and advice as well as a place to offer a helping hand to newcomers and those stuck firmly with nowhere obvious to go.

What We Offer

Here at FTC we offer ;

  • A research guide on how to start and for those who have been researching for a while, guidance on where to go next.
  • Research tools, suggestions for websites, books, and other resources for your research.
  • A forum to leave messages asking for help, advice, look ups or for members to add anything for other members to see. This is where you can offer your help to other members too.
  • Finally, we offer a friendly place for people to get the research help they are looking for.

We hope you will join our small community and have fun whilst helping each other. Everyone can help someone in some way, be it by offering advice, suggestions on how to find elusive information, doing look ups, taking photos of churches, villages etc for other members, the list is endless.
Come on in and join the fun!
